Indoor Air Quality

>> Monday, May 18, 2009

I have been so NOT on my normal schedule that I didn't even get to do my 5 Minutes for Going Green post last month. Well, I did one this month and it's up to read. It's about indoor air quality. IAQ (indoor air quality) is one of the leading environmental risks. In fact, the:

Environmental Protection Agency has identified indoor air quality as one of the top five most urgent environmental risks to public health...More than 50 percent of Americans are not aware that poor indoor air quality is one of the top five most urgent environmental risks to public health. And nearly 25 percent of Americans are not concerned about the air quality in their homes and the impact it can have on their family’s health.

To get some tips on what you can do in your own home about your IAQ, check out my post or visit the EPA website.

I know exactly what you are talking about.  I worked at a government building when I was younger. Actually it was the same government building that I met your mother at and where she and I worked together in 1998.  Anyway, after working there for awhile, I started getting really sick.  I knew there was something wrong with that building and like  had told  you before how allergic to mold I am.  I made a complaint and the inspectors came in and did all kind of air tests around my work station.  They all came back positive for high levels of mold in the air and around my work station.  This is what was making me sick.  So, the air quality in the buildings you work and live in makes a really big difference in your life.  I ended up having sinus surgery due to being exposed to all the mold in that building.

Now I know why I always open windows.  Even in winter.  Love the smell of fresh air.  I feel sorry for anybody working all day in an office with windows sealed shut.  Will check out your links.
Takes a while to settle down after a move.
Don't worry - be happy. LOL!

that is really gross. Especially for a government building. People need to think about those sorts of things. Fresh air is good for you!

Thanks Wendy... and I feel you. I hate air conditioning. I like fresh breezes. Hot or cold makes no difference. It's just better.
